Poetry-Style, hating Diabetes

We are halfway through D-Blog Week, and now’s theme is “10 Things I Hate About Diabetes.” Pretty self-explanatory!

When I heard about this theme, I immediately flashed back to the classic teen comedy of a similar name, starring Julia Stiles and the late Heath Ledger. Who recalls that emotional climactic scene where Julia reads her “despise poem” to Heath (which gives the movie its name)?

Obviously, I just needed to  do some digging to the first transcript of the poem, put my own D spin on it. Hope you enjoy!

10 Things I Hate About Diabetes

I hate How You trace me,

And How You switch from day to day

I hate How You won’t let me be

I hate it when you put me in a bind

I despise your sneakiness and your laziness

And how you cloud my thoughts.

I hate you so much it makes me sick;

I hate How You make me scared

I hate it when you do the opposite of what I try

I hate it when you make me feel so unprepared

Even worse when you make me shout.

I despise it when you trip me up after doing what I could

And the fact I can’t get you over.

But mostly I hate how you’ve also brought me good.
