Being told by your doctor that you have diabetes can be a major setback for some. Needing to change your lifestyle isn’t a simple feat, and that’s the reason why diabetic rappers like Boosie BadAzz continue to promote diabetes awareness around the nation. Even though the disease shockingly claimed the life of A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg just 1 year ago, Dame Dash desires the world to be aware that the celiac disease should not prevent anyone from continuing to live their life, since it did not for him.
Dash has been diagnosed with diabetes at the youthful age of 15. Through the years, the Type 1 diabetic has talked about the battles it can cause and what you can do to conquer them and on August 7, he will formally launch the Dash Diabetes Network so others like him can share their stories.
“Allll you have to do is live a genuine healthier lifestyle, and you can win,” he says while recounting his background with the illness. The Dash Diabetes Network has some blog posts where “diabadasses” may read about different strategies to control it. With the support of Dame’s “Wifey for Lifey” Raquel Horn, the Afrezza-sponsored website will be “a place to showcase your power.” It will also keep viewers informed on the latest updates and inventions to find a cure, while he and Horn provide ways to eat healthy and fight diabetes to a level at which it doesn’t influence one’s life in such a great capacity.
Before the launch, Damon Dash has been spread awareness through his social media stations, more specifically on Facebook. The music mogul has gone twice over the last week and hosted Q&A sessions so people can better understand the reason.
